MATCH REPORT – ABERDEEN ATOMS VS. COWIE REDS 12th March 2014

Match Report by Rachel Wilkie

Tonight’s match saw the Aberdeen Atoms enter their penultimate match of a very success season against Cowie Reds.  For some of the atoms this was their final game (Morag and Nicola). They were up against a tough 6 woman Cowie team.

1st Quarter

The game saw regular Shooter Coleen having to ‘man up’ and play WA for the first quarter. Despite saying ‘I’m going to play rubbish in this position,’ she played AWESOME. She worked well with the C (Rachael), with quick sharp balls in and out of the shooting circle. Whilst there was awesome shooting from GS (Claire)and GA (Sally), there was also great defending from the WD (Morag) and GD (Kerri) to deny Cowie from getting there centre passes out to their attack. Despite the height difference GK (Maureen) did a brilliant job prevent the Cowie GS from scoring.

The first quarter ended 23-4 to the Atoms.

2nd Quarter

With the game now in full swing, the Atoms start to relax and enjoy playing together as a team. The second quarter saw Sally and Coleen combine as a strong shooting partnership.  Their passing and moving was superb (almost looked like we were watching professional netball). Great support from the C (Emma) and WA (Rachael) in the centre third.  Atoms were taking full advantage of Cowie’s mistakes and scored a few on the trot. Leisa came on and played amazing by getting some great interception and preventing the shooter from getting to the circle.

The second quarter ended 13-34 to the Atoms.

3rd Quarter

Atoms get the third quarter under way with a quick break from the centre circle into the goal third which results in with a superb shot by Claire. Claire then proceeds to perform a chimp stance as a goal celebration.  The Atoms communication improved this quarter with each player shouting for every ball and telling the rest of their team mates where they are.

The third quarter ending 19-50 to the Atoms

4th Quarter

The final quarter saw Captain Coleen give the team a good talking to, and gee the team up for their final quarter.

Atoms, as usual, played awesome, great interceptions by all players up and down the court. Determined to achieve their goal, the shooters were trying some shots from far our.

The final Score was 19-65.
