Hazlehead 3 v Aberdeen Atoms– Wednesday 6th Nov – Cults Academy 8.45pm

Match Report by Maureen Masson

Atoms started well to a Hazlehead team who were a man down throughout the match, however the match was a closely fought one. Atoms started well opening the scoring quite early on with some lovely play with Edgar and Buckley in the circle. Hazlehead defended well but were no match for an on form Atoms. Centre court was more evenly matched but Atoms remained in charge of the quarter. Atoms continued to have the edge with some lovely positioning on the court and although Hazlehead were able at times to break through the Atoms defence and score a few times but Atoms ended the quarter ahead on goals.

The second quarter saw Halelhead 3 stepping up their game but the Atoms defence was ready for them with some lovely passes and interceptions by Miller and Wilkie. The play was more evenly matched this quarter with both teams having some lovely passes and positioning. There was a lot of action in the Atoms scoring circle with Waite being particularly effective with her shots.  This was reflected in the score at the end of the second quarter 7 – 24 to Atoms

The third quarter opened quickly with both teams fighting for possession but Atoms again opened the scoring. Atoms continued to keep the pressure on in both centre court and the scoring circle. Defence worked well together and the good positioning of the players on the court paid off with some lovely passing to the centre and more goals for Atoms.

The final quarter showed an increase in pace for both teams, with Hazelhead opening the scoring in this quarter. However Atoms remained the stronger side despite Wilkie coming off with an ankle injury and Edgar replacing her as goal keeper the team were able to rally and continue to keep the pressure on Hazelhead with yet more goals.

The match finished 22 Hazlehead 3 – 45 Atoms.
